Bijou Cafe in Portland

Bijou might not look like much from the sidewalk, but don’t let the humble diner vibes scare you off. The brunch menu at Bijou is filled with the standard fare, plus a great set of spicy hash dishes (cauliflower and kale hash was amazing!) and a la carte options. Be sure to try the local hot sauces on your eggs!

This place is wonderful. Cozy and tasty food with great drinks! I will return for more friendly service that didn't rush us at Saturday brunch. The tuna melt is the best I have had in many years! Or maybe ever and the bloody Mary was too good to be guilty about!

*Out of this world* omelettes. I'm sure they do other things well too, but the omelettes are so amazing that it's hard to convince me to get anything else. I have missed a train to enjoy these omelettes, which is to say I've basically paid a whole train ticket to eat them. NO REGRETS.

I've been coming here frequently for 4 years. The food has always been consistent. The wait time is not bad at all compared to other breakfast places. Waiters alway have a smile on their face. Highly recommend trying this place. It's definitely top 5 breakfast places in Portland in my opinion.

Staff was really friendly, and even though everywhere else seemed packed on a busy Sunday morning brunch rush, we were seated at Bijou within 20 minutes. I had a butternut squash and yam hash, which was a special that day, and it was phenomenal! My buddy had the biscuits and sausage gravy, which he claims was really delicious as well. The atmosphere was as you'd expect for a brunch rush, a little crowded, and noisy. Not a good time for an intimate brunch, that's for sure. 10/10 on top of Portland's brunch game! Definitely will be going there again.

Bijou didn't disappoint us. We enjoyed good quality food and good service. They go around with water and coffee and fill your cup constantly. I didn't run out of coffee. Nice

Checked out this place for breakfast during my 3 day stay in Portland. I ordered the farmers omelette. The presentation was really good, the food itself was good. I will say the portion size won’t fill you up, but it’ll leave you satisfied. I also ordered the daily muffin and it was lemon peppy seed! I enjoyed the muffin a lot. The service itself was extremely good. It’s a small, cute little cafe where you can socialize over a coffee or multiple plus grab some food.

Very strict rules for the waiting list, so we stayed and waited 20 minutes while three tables were empty. We we're next on the list party of two, and they wet up the tables for four? We left. The energy there is aggressive not customer friendly. Food looked good though.

Really liked this place! It's a nice little cafe in Downtown Portland and has plenty of nice breakfast options for diners. The wait staff is very nice and cheerful (they frequently refill your coffee and I think that's great!). I ordered a fine herb omelette with salad and it was quite good. They also ask in advance if you like your omelet soft. My friend got potatoes on the side and they were pretty good! Giving it a 4 star because I thought the place was little expensive.

It was a 35 minute wait for breakfast, but it was worth the wait!! My wife had the biscuits and gravy. It was delicious as was her bloody Bijou drink. I had the buttermilk chicken, it was freaking delicious!! Highly recommended!!

The food was prepared with perfect balance. Nothing over/under cooked. Best potatoes I've had in a while. Light crispiness on the outside yet tender/moist on the inside. Mushroom omelet was excellent.

We went for brunch early Sunday and it was wonderful. The Reuben sandwich was great and our server was very friendly.Edit:I had to lower my rating from 5 stars to 4. After coming here for years, the prices are getting higher and the quality of food and service is getting lower. After just paying $18.95 for a bowl of greens and a piece of grilled chicken today, we decided to find a new normal brunch spot. Still a great spot, just not a 5 star experience anymore.

Lovely breakfast place. I went there for breakfast. I was waiting for my friends for about 20min or so before we ordered. The waitress was so nice and friendly. She did not rush me. This was the first time I tried French omelette. It was different but good. Parking was convenient. There were several streets around having opening spots.

The place has not changed a bit, it is still one of the best brunches in the city. They changed the menu since my day, no more hang town fry, but their fried oysters hash was incredible. The best oysters I have had in years. Jalapeño infused vodka Bloody Mary was outstanding. Even Squirrelly Shane did a very good job with the service.

Lots of interesting breakfast offerings. Good coffee. Excellent service. Three of us ordered traditional eggs and potatoes with two opting to include the meat upgrade. The scrambled egg people were advised the standard is slightly runny, so they were able to order them as they preferred. The fourth in our party had a Dutch Baby Special with pears and said it was good, but was way too filling to finish at one sitting.

I just happened to walk by this place decided to try on a whim. I am very glad I did. I ordered their special breakfast which is Roasted Chicken Hash with wild mushrooms, two egg any style (I ordered mine sunny side up) and wheat toast. The roasted chicken was very juicy and the potato with wild mushrooms are very tasty. This is a great departure from the standard American breakfast fare.

Wonderful. We didn't have a reservation and had to wait a while. It was worth it. The drinks were tasty and the food was delightful. Don't go for a quick bite during their busy times.

I would give them 5 stars if the waiter wasn’t too busy to check on us and ask if we need anything. He never came to refill our “very small” glasses of water until we asked him to.

Great brunch place to get your day started! We ordered buttermilk chicken and their summer special with bacon. The bacon is cooked to the perfect texture, not too hard and not too chewy. The chicken is crispy and the meat is really juicy. However it is not seasoned enough as the taste is a bit plain. The ambience was lively so it helped me to wake up as well! EDIT: Docking two stars as they charged me twice and each one has the wrong amount.

Hands down the best brunch in Portland. The Bijou uses only the best ingredients from great local sources. The staples never disappoint, and they always have amazing specials

The Bijou is a Portland institution; an urban diner that's been serving up locally farmed, organic foodstuffs since 1978. As a decades long patron, I've enjoyed many great meals here. It's my favorite brunch spot. Huge windows with tons of natural light surround the open kitchen and bar. Their expansion, ages ago, was a genius and welcomed move.

We always come here for a perfectly prepared breakfast and have for many years. Service is always good. Starting with their fresh-squeezed orange juice and a good cup of coffee we always enjoy their excellent omelettes. Few places get it right and usually overcook omelettes, but Bijou gets it right every time. Mushrooms and melted cheddar cheese! It is also excellent

Fantastic service and possibly the best espresso this side of the Atlantic. I often have business meetings here. The staff are always glowing and helpful. The menu is great. Bijou has made itself in to one of those iconic Portland stops.

Great breakfast venue in downtown Portland. There is an excellent selection for breakfast and brunch. Coffee was decent. Really enjoyed the food. Recommended.

Great brunch to which I would go back for. A number of non-standard items that makes for an interesting meal. Bit of a wait to get in, but the 10 mins spent waiting was worth it.

The food was overall good, not overwhelming it intimidation. The staff and waitresses were excellent. There was no wait when we arrived but the line quickly built up. Will definitely recommend giving it a try.

The food here is incredible. The staff have always been helpful and courteous. We try to visit this restaurant every time we are in Portland. It’s hard to go wrong with anything in the menu. The prices are reasonable.

Great food with a nice atmosphere and not too crowded on a rainy Sunday! The German pancake (Dutch baby) was amazing with the pears and walnuts. That was a special, normal is an apple German pancake. The omelette was super soft and silky. Staff was very nice and everything came out quickly and nice and hot!

Wait for a spot took forever(1 hour 5 minutes while being told 20-30 minutes initially) but the food was really good and our server was incredibly nice. People were saying they didn’t want my service animal in their face while he was lying down at least 4 feet away and she told them she couldn’t say anything because he is a Service animal. Small kindness but greatly appreciated.

Bijou is consistently good food in downtown Portland. They always do a splendid job of accommodating our parties of 8 - 10 people. This place gets busy at lunch. My favorite dishes are the German pancake and the frittata. I also like the baby asparagus and poached eggs when it is in season. It's definitely worth a try, especially if you don't want to stand in line at nearby Mother's, this place usually has short wait times.

The omelettes (French Style) are the best, most delicious, amazing creations ever. DO NOT have the chef prepare your omelette the way you think you like it... let them do their thing, you will not regret it. Best ever. You might want to get a side of grilled cinnamon toast as well. Yummy!! Our cocktails were worth it too. We arrived just before 9:00am on a Saturday, we walked right in. But by the time we were leaving, there was quite a wait.

Very hearty breakfast options, sadly they won't do egg whites. Seriously hospitable serving staff.

You can get seated super quickly if you come on a weekday after 10am. The food was decent but pretty overpriced. About $25 for one pancake, fried chicken and cup of OJ. Service is super slow when it comes to getting served or picking up the bill at the end. Wouldn’t come here again and pretty surprised it has such a high rating to be honest.

Great and efficient service. Fantastic food and condiments. Serving sizes were just right for us, but may be a bit small for others. Amazing dining experience, even with a table full of kids. Has an auto-gratuity of 20% for groups of 6 and above, but definitely well-worth it.
